Bradley Gibson

Biography

Professor Gibson received his Ph.D. in Psychology and Cognitive Science from the University of Arizona. Following his graduate degree, he served a two-year Postdoctoral Fellowship in Cognitive Neuropsychology at Johns Hopkins University. He is currently a Professor in the Cognition, Brain, and Behavior Area of the Psychology Department at the University of Notre Dame where he has directed the Attention, Memory, and Perception (AMP) Laboratory since 1994.

He also currently serves as the Co-Chair of the Neuroscience and Behavior Major. Through these various academic roles, he has successfully mentored hundreds of undergraduate students and dozens of graduate students, from a variety of different backgrounds, over the past 29 years.

His research in perception has focused on the perception of both the inner state of the body, and the visual perception of the external world. His work in memory has focused on the role of space and time in the encoding of memories, and he has also examined the possibility of memory enhancement using computerized training regimens. His research in attention has spanned a number of topics including the control of attention, and visual search. His research has also included both typical and atypical (ADHD) populations.

Professor Gibson's past research has been funded by the National Science Foundation and the Institute of Education Sciences. In addition, he has also served as an Associate Editor for Attention, Perception, & Psychophysics, and he is currently serving as a Consulting Editor for several other top journals in Psychology and Neuropsychology.
