Community Engagement

The Neuroscience and Behavior Program adheres to the Holy Cross charism which emphasizes the integration of mind and heart, faith and reason, and the importance of community, education, and service. As a part of the University of Notre Dame, our program prioritizes education, fostering a sense of community and mutual respect. Service to others, especially the marginalized, is a key aspect. These core principles guide our approach to education, community, service, and social justice efforts.

Programs and Events

  • Brain Ambassadors

    Brain Ambassadors are Notre Dame Students in the Neuroscience and Behavior Program who have taken a one-credit Brain Ambassadors elective which allows them to integrate their classroom learning into community action through the creation and execution of fun and engaging neuroscience activities.

  • Annual Brain Awareness Fair

    The annual Brain Awareness Fair is a free program for the community and consists of Brain Ambassador-developed hands-on activities to engage students in understanding neuroscience.

  • Notre Dame Brain Bee

    The Notre Dame Brain Bee is an annual event open to students in grades 8–12, designed to motivate students to learn about the brain and pursue careers in neuroscience, other scientific disciplines or are just curious about what makes humans tick.

  • Michiana Chapter of the Society for Neuroscience

    The purpose of the Michiana Chapter of the Society for Neuroscience is to advance the understanding of the nervous system, promote neurosciences education, and communicate with the public surrounding issues related to current neuroscience research.

  • (neuro)Science in Society Impact Summit

    This summit aims to engage in dialogue between community and campus partners to learn what community needs are so we can best lend our strengths to building the capacity of our community.

  • Distinguished Lecture Series

    The Neuroscience and Behavior program invites a speaker to campus who will engage students, faculty, and the community on a neuroscience topic.
